Warm Summer Wedding at Swan Harbor Farm | Havre de Grace, Maryland
Rachel and Evan are a perfect picture of what freedom in Jesus looks like. They met in the rave scene (how we missed each other back then, I have no idea) and seem to have quickly found that they wanted more than this world has to offer. God used their romance to lead them back to Him through the purest of loves. To have been a witness to the tying of their hearts together was such an honor!
The one word I would to describe Rachel and Evan as a couple would be radiant. They emanate warmth and light. They love fiercely - a type of love they extend far beyond their relationship. To know this couple is to know what it’s like to be loved cheerfully and unconditionally. This is beautifully embodied in Rachel’s choice of sunflowers in her wedding day - the sun shone, the sky was blue, and the yellow colors intricately placed throughout the decor perfectly accentuated her warm personality.
This day unfolded with comfort and ease. Even the typically stoic series of family shots felt comfortable, as Rachel’s mom is a wedding planner and was able to gather the groups quickly and easily. (A total blessing in itself, am I right?!) My favorite aspect of this beautiful day was to have the freedom to capture it as I saw it. As with any artist, I struggle with imposter syndrome sometimes: Am I good enough for this? Do I have what it takes to capture this couple in all their beauty? To be trusted with my natural, authentic photography style was an honor. I was able to follow my own eye all day and as a result, captured this day as it was experienced. My hope is that this couple is able to look back on these photos and remember not just the events that happened, but the micro-moments (random laughter, spontaneous singing, tears of joy) they may have forgotten otherwise.
During their ceremony, Rachel and Evan put aside some time to worship. They played the song “Way Maker” by Leeland and turned towards the water and the sun while they worshiped the God that brought them together. This moment was beautifully raw and indicative of Rachel and Evan’s commitment to Jesus in their marriage. As they raised their hands in worship, their parents, siblings, and friends all joined in the praise. Man, talk about powerful. It felt surreal to circle the crowd with my camera, capturing these intimate moments with God.
And lastly: the party. Hot damn, the reception party at this wedding was unbelievable. There’s nothing like seeing countless good friends get together to celebrate love. The joy felt in this crowd was off the charts.
